Nars Sheer Glow Foundation: In Depth

Welcome to my very in-depth review of the infamous NARS Sheer Glow Foundation!
When it comes to high end foundations I am very dubious about trying them out, mainly due to the price tag that comes along with them. But when I came to the end of my beloved Revlon Colorstay Foundation that I'd been going back to for YEARS I thought I'd break the bank and try a base that all beauty lovers and their mothers have tried. This truly is an amazing foundation that just looks lovely on my skin. For reference I have normal to dry skin with the dry patches only occurring in small patches on my cheeks and sometimes on my eyelids, and my main skin concern is acne scarring. The colour of the Sheer Glow in the picture is 'Fiji' but it is currently slightly too dark for my skin tone as I bought it in the summer.
I take into consideration a couple of things when I'm deciding whether or not I'm going to like a foundation; coverage, staying power, finish, the packaging and the hefty price tag!
Firstly the coverage, the product is described as being sheer but buildable. I partly agree with this because it is very buildable, a very small amount will give you a nice amount of coverage. However I wouldn't describe it as a 'sheer' covering at all as it does cover the majority of redness and discolouration. It is however sheer in the way that it doesn't feel heavy or thick on the skin at all, it just feels like a moisturiser. So, I can wear this foundation on days when only I need just a little something to fix my complexion (I like to use a stippling brush) but I can also build it up to a heavier coverage for a night out or a bolder look (works best with a denser brush like a Real Techniques Expert Face Brush.) Overall for coverage I would give it a 9/10 as I would still need a bit of concealer if I had a spot or a more pigmented area of discolouration/redness.
Next on the list is staying power. Now I always powder my face along my t-zone no matter what product I'm wearing, so I can't comment on the longevity of the product by itself on the skin. However, with powder I find it will last on my skin throughout the day for a good 8 hours, I never carry around powder on my person so that's without any make-up touch ups. Pretty good eh? If you wore this on a night out, in a hot country, or anywhere else that you might get a bit flustered, you may find the staying power to be considerably less. As the name suggests it is a 'glowy' foundation, therefore shine and God knows what might make an appearance through your foundation, so take some blotting tissues with you if you're in that situation girls! Overall I would give the staying power of this product an 8/10.
Number 3, the finish. Again as the name suggests, 'sheer glow' it does have a very lightweight feel about it as well as looking healthy and natural on the skin. It isn't incredibly shiny and it doesn't have any small glitter particles that will make you look like a disco ball under heavy lighting. I would describe it as slightly dewy and natural looking. If you're someone like me that's trying to cover up imperfections, it doesn't look like you're trying to if you get my gist, as you only need a very small amount of foundation buffed over the skin to give you a better complexion. And it doesn't cling to dry patches, it's the exact finish I want for my skin type, so it's a 10/10 from me.
Packaging is something that doesn't make a difference to the foundation itself but it is something that I consider when deciding whether or not I would repurchase the product again. The square glass bottle is very luxurious and expensive looking but the screw top lid can get rather dirty, as can all the signature black NARS packaging. I do find that I am a bit wary when putting the bottle in my handbag or luggage in the fear that it might smash. It also, as I mentioned, is just a screw top bottle with no pump, although NARS do sell a pump that fits the foundation on their website. I didn't know about this until quite recently but when I repurchase I will definitely buy one! 100% less hassle with a pump! Packaging gets an overall 8/10.
Lastly the price! This foundation retails at £30.50, which is on the higher end of the scale of high end foundations, and if you buy the pump as well that's £33.50! A bit of a drawback. It is worth a bit of extra money but probably not as much as it sells for, however I would still buy it at this price just because I really do like it, but it wouldn't hurt putting down the price a bit NARS!! Overall 7/10 as it does last a very long time, you only need a small amount.

So my overall review of the NARS Sheer Glow comes to a grand total of 8.4/10! I will repurchase this foundation in the future, it has gone into the 'repurchase' pile! But for now I'm in the middle of a great search of foundations, trying everything under the sun!
What's your favourite foundation and have you tried NARS Sheer Glow?
